R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Cecilia McPherson Smith of Houston on
April 3, 2004, deeply saddened the family and many friends of this
esteemed Texan; and
WHEREAS, Born on March 4, 1908, in Groveton, Mrs. Smith had
the privilege of witnessing some of the world's most significant
events and advancements, and the wealth of knowledge she gained and
the experiences she shared with her family and friends positively
influenced their lives immeasurably; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith was a devoted mother, grandmother, and
great-grandmother, as well as a cherished friend to many; she was a
valued member of the Parkwood Baptist Church, and her spirit will
continue to live in the hearts of those individuals who were
fortunate enough to have known her; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Cecilia McPherson Smith and extend sincere sympathy to the members
of her family: to her sons, Edward E. Smith, and his wife, Lucy, and
Gary L. Smith; to her brothers, Bill and Donald McPherson; to her
grandchildren, Clint Smith, Dawn Askew, and Sean Smith; to her
great-grandchildren, Brooke Smith, Foster Askew, Sterling Askew,
Faith Askew, Jadd Smith, and Kenly Smith; and to her other relatives
and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Cecilia
McPherson Smith.
