R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Richard Rivera, superintendent of the Weslaco Independent School District, was recently named the 2003 Regional Superintendent of the Year by the Region I Education Service Center; and WHEREAS, This well-deserved tribute honors an administrator who has worked to build strong and effective employee relations, increase public involvement in public education, and create new opportunities for the children of Texas; and WHEREAS, Mr. Rivera previously served as classroom teacher and coach, assistant principal, and principal before assuming his current position in August 1996; his 37-year career in education has been characterized by visionary leadership and dedication to excellence, and he has won the respect and admiration of students, teachers, parents, and peers alike during his tenure; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Rivera has enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Mary Ellen, and his children, Omar, Roxanne, and Ricky; and WHEREAS, Over the course of his illustrious career, Mr. Rivera has distinguished himself as an administrator of the highest order and as a Texan whose contributions to public education have benefited many thousands of citizens of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Richard Rivera, Weslaco ISD superintendent, on his designation as 2003 Regional Superintendent of the Year and extend to him best wishes for success and happiness in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Rivera as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
