H.R. No. 121


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On May 16, 2004, the Reverend A. D. Campbell and the congregation of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas are marking a significant milestone in the history of the church by celebrating its 25th anniversary; and WHEREAS, Ten faithful believers, guided by the Reverend E. C. Estell, Jr., founded the church in early 1979; Reverend Campbell answered the call to the pastorate in 1985, and he shares his deep faith and counsel with church members and encourages them to "stand with confidence and serve with compassion"; and WHEREAS, Responsive to the residents of the greater community as well as its congregation, the church is a source of hope to many and a place of practical assistance, and it strives to address economic, cultural, educational, and spiritual needs; in addition to stocking a pantry offering food and clothing, the church supports such important endeavors as a homeless shelter mission, a nursing home ministry, and a prison ministry; and WHEREAS, In 1996, the Liberty Heights Community Center was founded under the auspices of the church as a safe haven for young people, and it has earned praise from the Dallas Police Department and Dallas Morning News for its role in stemming crime and drug traffic in Southeast Dallas; and WHEREAS, For a quarter-century, Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church has provided physical and spiritual nourishment for countless Texans, and it is a distinct pleasure to join in honoring the church at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Reverend Campbell and the congregation of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church on the joyous occasion of the 25th anniversary of the church's founding and extend to all involved sincere wishes for a meaningful and memorable observance; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
