R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The people of Texas have a long and proud tradition of service in the armed forces of the United States, and Joshua Benjamin Kelley has sustained that tradition through his valiant efforts in the Iraqi campaign; and WHEREAS, This courageous soldier fulfilled a longtime ambition when he enlisted in the U.S. Army immediately following his graduation from Monterrey High School in 1998; based at Fort Hood before being deployed to the Middle East, he currently serves with the 1st Cavalry Division at Camp War Eagle in Baghdad; and WHEREAS, Though Sergeant Kelley's original enlistment ended in 2002, the tragic events of September 11, 2001, strengthened his resolve and affirmed his commitment to defend his country of birth; determined to do his share for the war against terror, he reenlisted and requested assignment with the 1st Cavalry Division; and WHEREAS, Americans everywhere owe these young men and women an immeasurable debt of gratitude for the burdens and sacrifice they have assumed, and for their unwavering dedication to those rights and ideals that have made this nation, for so many around the world, the promised land; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby honor Joshua Benjamin Kelley for his service and extend to him profound appreciation for his brave and steadfast efforts in this country's behalf; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Sergeant Kelley as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
