H.R. No. 137


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Ralph Brock were deeply saddened by the passing of this distinguished lawyer and lifelong Lubbock resident on July 11, 2003, at the age of 87; and WHEREAS, Mr. Brock was born on December 2, 1915, in Crosby County and moved to Lubbock in 1926; he earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the early age of 13 and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1933; Mr. Brock attended Texas Tech University and graduated from The University of Texas Law School in 1938; and WHEREAS, Answering his country's call to service, Mr. Brock distinguished himself as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater from 1942 to 1945; after the war, he married the love of his life, Pauline Garrett, in 1948, and their union was blessed with one son, one daughter, and five grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Elected Lubbock County Attorney in 1940, Mr. Brock practiced law in Lubbock for 65 years; he served as president of the Lubbock County Bar Association, which recognized him as "Distinguished Senior Lawyer" in 1988, and he was also a member of the board of directors of the State Bar of Texas; and WHEREAS, Mr. Brock actively participated in local and state politics, serving as Lubbock County Democratic Party chairman and as a member of the State Democratic Party Executive Committee; notably, he had the privilege to be a delegate to the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago; and WHEREAS, An esteemed lawyer and a respected and valued member of the community who taught Sunday school classes at First Methodist Church in Lubbock, Mr. Brock will be remembered for his wit and wisdom, and the blessings of his life will be forever cherished by those who were privileged to share his love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay special tribute to the life of Ralph Brock and extend deepest sympathies to the members of his family: to his wife, Pauline Brock; to his son, Steve Brock; to his daughter, Elaine Glasheen; to his five grandchildren; to his numerous nieces and nephews; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ralph Brock.
