R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Members of the Memorial High School academic team in the Victoria Independent School District (VISD) have achieved an admirable level of success in recent district and regional University Interscholastic League (UIL) academic competitions; and WHEREAS, On April 2-3, 2004, the Memorial High School academic team, coached by Irene Hahn, won the 29-5A district championship; teams took first place in speech, social studies, computer science, math, and spelling and won second place in journalism, calculator, accounting, and current events; and WHEREAS, Individual first place winners include Daniel Sertuche in computer applications; Laura Krenek in spelling; Matthew Cole in Lincoln-Douglas debate and informative speaking; Eric Neill in computer science; Amber Bruschi in persuasive speaking; and Shannon Cromer in headline writing; and WHEREAS, On April 24, 2004, at the Region IV-5A meet held at The University of Texas at San Antonio, several Memorial students extended their successful run to qualify for the state meet; Tyler Murray took first place in current issues and events; Shannon Cromer placed third in news writing; and Matt Cole came in second in informative speaking and won first in Lincoln-Douglas debate; students qualifying as alternates include Carlton Singleton in current issues and events, Laura Krenek in spelling and vocabulary, and Tyler Murray in informative speaking; and WHEREAS, These exceptional young scholars, along with their teachers, are a source of tremendous pride to the students and staff at Memorial High School, and it is a pleasure to honor them at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate the Memorial High School UIL academic team and individual winners for their achievements in district and regional competition and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Memorial High School academic team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
