R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Julian Flores, Jr., on March 19,
2004, at the age of 60, has deeply saddened his family and many
friends in the Weslaco community; and
WHEREAS, Born on November 27, 1943, Mr. Flores graduated from
Weslaco High School in his hometown and received a bachelor's
degree with a minor in business from The University of Texas--Pan
American; and
WHEREAS, He had the distinction of serving as the first
Hispanic agriculture inspector for Kern County in California; a
successful entrepreneur, he was the owner/operator of several
businesses, including Flores Insurance, Julian's Fences, Flores
Income Tax Service, and his pride--the Panther's Den, Tiger's Den,
and Cardinal's Den; he also had taught at Central Middle School; and
WHEREAS, This civic-minded individual coached youth football
and Little League baseball and participated in such worthy
endeavors as Jaycees, the Weslaco Mid-Valley Lions Club, of which
he was a past president, and the city's parks and recreation
department board of directors; in his personal time, he was a golfer
and enjoyed delving into politics and working on his ranch; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Julian Flores, Jr.,
touched the lives of countless people, and he will long be
remembered with affection and admiration for his dedication to his
family and his community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Julian Flores, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
his family: to his wife of 38 years, Avelina R. Flores; to his
children, Julian Javier Flores, Jaime Abel Flores, and Cynthia Ann
F. Villa; to his son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Omero Villa, Jr.,
and Cynthia R. Flores; to his mother, Maria V. Flores; to his
siblings, Guadalupe Perez, Irma Vasquez, Esmeralda "Betty" De Los
Santos, Rosalinda Grimaldo, Enedelia Grimaldo, and Humberto
Flores; to his granddaughters, Jenny Flores and Julieza Flores; and
to all who mourn the passing of this beloved gentleman; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Julian
Flores, Jr.
