R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jody and Viola Allen of Longview have marked a
special milestone in their life together with the joyous
celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The Allens received the congratulations of family
and friends at a reception held at the First Church of the Nazarene
on April 17, 2004; and
WHEREAS, Jody E. Allen and the former Viola Hatcher, of Ozane
and Stamps, Arkansas, respectively, were wed at the First Baptist
Church in Rosston, Arkansas, in 1954; the couple are the proud
parents of two children and a daughter-in-law, Ronald Allen and his
wife, Joyce, and Renee Allen Hall; they have also welcomed into
their close-knit family five grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Allen worked for
Kimball Wholesale Grocery in Texarkana and for LeTourneau, Inc.,
and Wellman Industries in Longview; he is now retired from
Winston's; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Allen became a full-time homemaker with the
birth of their first child and since then has devoted her time and
talents to her family and to church work; she was an assistant for
17 years with the Joy Reflected ministry at First Assembly of God,
and for the past eight years she has served as director of the
Ladies Luncheon ministry at First Church of the Nazarene, where she
and her husband are valued congregants; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Allen is an outdoorsman who enjoys hunting deer
and elk, and Mrs. Allen takes pleasure in sewing; and
WHEREAS, The Allens are deeply cherished by their family and
friends, and their enduring marriage is a continuing source of joy
and inspiration to all who know them; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby honor Jody and Viola Allen
on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary and extend to
them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Allen as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
