R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Nina Foxx has achieved an admirable level of success in her writing, while making significant contributions to her community, and it is a pleasure to recognize her at this time; and WHEREAS, A current Austin resident who originally hailed from Jamaica, New York, Ms. Foxx has traveled the country extensively; she earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Hunter College and a master's degree in psychology from Baruch College before receiving her doctorate in psychology from City University of New York; she also earned a graduate literary fiction certificate at the University of Washington; and WHEREAS, Ms. Foxx is an established author who has written four novels, the third of which, Going Buck Wild, will be published in June 2004; her nonfiction book, entitled Do the Write Thing: 7 Steps to Publishing Success, is a popular text in graduate school classes and workshops; Ms. Foxx also writes columns for Black Words Online and reviews for Black Issues Book Review, and she is working on her fifth novel, which is scheduled for publication in May 2005; and WHEREAS, In addition to her successful writing career, Ms. Foxx is involved in local activities; she lends valuable support to the Austin Writers' League and volunteers for the Girl Scouts of America; Ms. Foxx is also an active member of Jack & Jill of America and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; and WHEREAS, This esteemed member of the Austin community serves as a role model for others aspiring to be writers, and she sets an example for all Texans who want to make a difference in the lives of other people; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Nina Foxx for her professional achievements and civic contributions and extend to her sincere best wishes for future success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Foxx as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
