R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas Children's Choir has been invited to Normandy to help commemorate the 60th anniversary of the D-Day invasion by performing selections from their repertoire of patriotic, classical, and sacred music; and WHEREAS, Under the direction of Dr. Thomas Hardaway, the Texas Children's Choir will perform for a global audience that includes heads of state from around the world; the group will also give a concert at Notre-Dame Cathedral and attend the official international ceremonies for the Allied Powers and the White House ceremonies at the American Cemetery; and WHEREAS, The Texas Children's Choir serves as a leadership development program for children, ages 8 to 14, from military and civilian families in the San Antonio area; in addition to developing strong leadership skills, the children experience the value of hard work and the rewards of serving others without the benefit of personal gain; and WHEREAS, Through their participation in civic and military events, choir members learn respect for their patriotic duty as Americans, and by working together with children from diverse backgrounds, these talented youngsters develop respect for the different beliefs and ideas of their peers, an essential element of American democracy; and WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Children's Choir include Andrea Block, Theresa DeLeon, Kieley Simonsen, Maggie Sorrell, Jeffrey Orgill, Emaleigh Hill, Tara Hunter, Carissa Thibodeaux, Robyn O'Bryant, Stephany Cavazos, Stephanie McLeod, Ciera Wilkerson, Kaitlin Adkison, Felisha Aubrey, Jake Krimbill, Ellen Rosenow, Karen Rosenow, Gabriela Moore, Megan Simon, Emma Brockhouse, Alyssa Ortiz, Angela Ludlow, CarLee Rodriguez, Jessie Saltzman, Skye Tabor, Kitty Bernal, Allyson Verdejo, Jenna Rockett, Kelly Orgill, Shawyntae Washington, Christina Davies, Mandy Aguilera, Jennifer Joor, Phoebe Torres, Ashley Hughes, Travis Hagen, Brett Borden, Trishana Thomas, Omeria Thomas, and Kenny Yasger; and WHEREAS, These young Texans have a rare opportunity to take part in what will surely be a memorable and inspirational event, and they will undoubtedly represent themselves and the State of Texas with the dignity, honor, and respect that this occasion deserves; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Dr. Thomas Hardaway and the members of the Texas Children's Choir on their upcoming participation in the 60th anniversary commemoration of the D-Day invasion and extend best wishes to them for a successful and memorable performance; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Hardaway and the members of the choir as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
