R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Houston community lost a dear friend, neighbor, and renowned restaurateur with the passing of Ben C. "Captain Benny" Hienemann on June 1, 1994, at the age of 69; and WHEREAS, The owner and operator of Captain Benny's Half Shell, a Houston seafood institution, Mr. Hienemann began learning the restaurant business as a young man; he worked for many years at Kelley's Restaurant and Bill Williams' Restaurant before purchasing the shrimp boat-styled building that became the original Captain Benny's eatery in 1969; and WHEREAS, For a quarter of a century, Mr. Hienemann delighted countless Bayou City residents and visitors with superb Gulf Coast fare; famous for its oysters and fried entrees, Captain Benny's Half Shell has attracted people from across the Lone Star State and remains a favorite among Houston's seafood-loving public; and WHEREAS, Ben Hienemann's legacy can be found not only in his professional successes, but also in his lasting, loving impression on his family and many friends, and though 10 years have elapsed since his passing, his spirit continues to shine brightly within their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay special tribute to the life of Ben C. "Captain Benny" Hienemann and extend sincere sympathy to his family: to his wife, Norma Jean; to his daughter, Judy; to his stepdaughter, Rosemary Nowlin; to his stepsons, John, Daniel, and Steve Miday; to his sister, Mary; and to the other relatives and many friends of this beloved gentleman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of "Captain Benny" Hienemann.
