R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Margaret L. Forde of Houston has been honored with an award for her contributions to education from the Acres Home Citizens Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, Dr. Forde has served as president of Northeast College, a member of the Houston Community College System (HCCS), since 1997; during a career of more than 30 years in higher education, she has also taught at Wichita State University, Bethany College, the University of Houston, and Texas Southern University; before accepting her present post, she served HCCS as an instructor of English and held a variety of administrative positions within that system; and WHEREAS, A highly productive scholar, Dr. Forde has published over 100 articles, coauthored several resource workbooks, and developed a method to assess the attitudes of teachers toward diverse student populations; she is also the coauthor of the first textbook to elaborate a process by which high school students can simultaneously earn high school and college credit; and WHEREAS, Dr. Forde has worked extensively with agencies and organizations concerned with higher education; among these have been the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and Houston Higher Education Coordinating Council; she recently completed a term on the National Academy of Science's National Research Advisory Council, and she currently serves as a commissioner on global education for the American Association of Community Colleges; and WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Forde has garnered many well-deserved accolades, including the W. E. B. DuBois Award for Higher Education from the National Alliance of Black School Educators; in 2000 she received an appointment from the Office of the Governor as a senior education advisor for the State of Texas; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan earned a bachelor's and a master's degree from Wichita State University and a doctorate in education from the University of Houston; she has participated in the Presidents Academy of the American Association of Community Colleges and has received certificates in international relations and in urban and regional planning from Oxford University and Kansas State University, respectively; and WHEREAS, Northeast College and the Houston Community College System have gained immeasurably from Dr. Forde's incisive leadership, deep experience, and unwavering commitment to the mission of those institutions, and it is indeed a pleasure to join in recognizing her manifold contributions and achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Dr. Margaret L. Forde on her recognition by the Acres Home Citizens Chamber of Commerce and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Forde as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
