H.R. No. 231
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Erich Wilhelm Schwartze II on
March 29, 2004, at the age of 82, has brought a profound loss to the
Waco community he faithfully served for nearly half a century; and
WHEREAS, Born on July 3, 1921, in Washington, D.C., he served
his country in the Pacific theater during World War II as a member
of the United States Navy, and during the Korean War he was a flight
surgeon at Webb Air Force Base in Big Spring; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Schwartze enrolled at Baylor University after
his naval service and met and married the love of his life, the
former Mary Buldain; for more than six decades, the couple enjoyed a
close and rewarding relationship that was blessed with two children
and five cherished grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Following his 1946 graduation from Baylor, Dr.
Schwartze went on to successfully complete the Bowman Gray School
of Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North
Carolina, as well as his residency at Houston's Hermann Hospital;
and
WHEREAS, This esteemed physician began his medical practice
in 1954 at the South Waco Clinic, where he worked to protect and
preserve the health of generations of Central Texans until his
retirement in 2001; moreover, he was a valued member of the staff at
Providence Health Center and Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, Despite a demanding schedule, he also made time to
enjoy the fellowship of others and to serve the community as a 32nd
degree Scottish Rite Mason; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Schwartze demonstrated great dedication to his
patients and profession throughout his exemplary medical career,
and he will long be remembered by all who were privileged to know
him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life and
accomplishments of Dr. Erich Schwartze and extend sincere sympathy
to the members of his family: to his wife, Mary Schwartze; to his
sons, Erich Wilhelm Schwartze III and his wife, Beverly, and Dr.
Mark Schwartze and his wife, Dayna; to his grandchildren, Erika,
Meredith, Jeff, Erich, and David Schwartze; and to his other
friends and relatives; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Erich
Wilhelm Schwartze II.
