R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Vernon Gaston of Lampasas was killed in Baghdad,
Iraq, on September 3, 2003, leaving behind a host of loved ones and
dear friends, and it is indeed appropriate to remember the life of
this esteemed American at this time; and
WHEREAS, Born on September 1, 1957, in Dallas, Mr. Gaston was
employed by Kellogg Brown & Root at the time of his passing; a
20-year employee of the postal service, he was working to establish
a postal system in Iraq when he was fatally wounded; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gaston was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during
Operation Desert Storm; a great-grandson of Frank Gaston, the
longtime owner of the Granbury News, he had worked in radio, was a
former correspondent for the Killeen Daily Herald, and was a noted
civic leader; and
WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Gaston is dearly missed by
his wife and children; his loss has left a void in their lives, yet
his legacy of service to his country and to his fellow Americans
lives on in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Vernon Gaston and extend sincere sympathy to his family: to his
wife, Kaye; to his children, Kristi, Steve, and Michael; and to the
many other relatives and friends of this beloved gentleman; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Vernon
Gaston.
