R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Specialist Larry E. Polley, Jr., of Center suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of this courageous young soldier in Iraq on January 17, 2004, at the age of 20; and WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Specialist Polley was killed when his Bradley Fighting Vehicle struck an explosive device and overturned north of Taji; and WHEREAS, Born on February 28, 1983, in Shelby County, Larry Polley, Jr., attended Center High School where he played trumpet with the school band; a faithful member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Specialist Polley served as an usher and sang in the youth choir; he enlisted in the army shortly after graduating with the Center High School Class of 2001; and WHEREAS, Described by friends and relatives as outgoing, active, and possessing a sparkling sense of humor and a winning smile, Specialist Polley was an avid enthusiast of fishing, video games, and computers; during a two-week leave at Christmas, this dedicated young soldier confided in family members that he planned to one day retire from the army; and WHEREAS, Our state and our nation are fortunate to have young men and women whose love for their country inspires them to military service, yet the tragic death of this exemplary young man is a sobering reminder of the cost of war; Specialist Polley will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and fellow soldiers, but his bravery and heroism will never be forgotten; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Specialist Larry E. Polley, Jr., United States Army, and extend profound sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Sebrena Polley; to his sons, Christian, Sedarion, and Jordan; to his parents, Larry Polley, Sr., and Lois Marie Harper; to his sister, Kinta Polley; to his brother, Robert Harper; to his grandmother, Ella Mae Polley; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army Specialist Larry E. Polley, Jr.
