R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Angleton Lions Club is celebrating its 75th
anniversary on May 15, 2004, and this occasion presents an ideal
opportunity to commend this group for its contributions to the city
of Angleton; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the decades, the Angleton Lions Club has
been an integral part of its community; it has been deeply involved
in activities ranging from distributing food baskets to sponsoring
youth sports teams and has organized events such as talent shows,
magic shows, light bulb sales, garage sales, barbecues, pancake
suppers, fish frys, and raffles that have succeeded in raising
thousands of dollars for city residents; group members have given
their time to improving area parks by building picnic tables and
installing playground equipment; and
WHEREAS, Along with managing youth and neighborhood
programs, Lions Clubs are known worldwide for their services to the
blind and visually impaired and, for several years, Angleton's
local chapter has conducted a project that has furnished thousands
of pairs of glasses for the city's schoolchildren; and
WHEREAS, One of the venerable organizations of Angleton, the
Angleton Lions Club can now look back with great pride on a history
of dedicated and compassionate service to the city that spans three
quarters of a century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate the Angleton
Lions Club on its 75th anniversary; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Angleton Lions Club as an expression of high regard
by the Texas House of Representatives.
