R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Majors Ron and Ruth Draper of Brazoria County are
retiring on May 19, 2004, after many years of dedicated service with
the Salvation Army; and
WHEREAS, The Drapers have devoted a combined 77 years to the
mission of the Salvation Army; in that span of time, they helped to
establish the first Salvation Army in Colombia and also served the
needs of countless people in Costa Rica and Mexico as well as in
Georgia and North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, For the last 14 years, the Drapers have worked at the
Salvation Army in Freeport; they have taken on vital
responsibilities in the area, including disaster relief, operation
of the only homeless shelter in the county and of the day care
center, and coordination of everyday provisions such as food,
medicine, and rent; and
WHEREAS, These two exceptional individuals were both drawn to
the cause of goodwill and altruism that the Salvation Army
represents and met during officer training; united in their belief
as well as in marriage, they share many achievements that have had a
direct beneficial impact on innumerable individuals; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to Majors Ron
and Ruth Draper for the deep commitment they have brought to their
work for the Salvation Army and extend to them best wishes for
continued happiness and fulfillment as they embark on a new path in
their life together; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Drapers as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
