R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Seven Irving organizations and businesses have been
recognized by Congressman Pete Sessions, the City of Irving, the
Irving Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce, and a number of civic groups
for the exceptional support they have provided to employees engaged
in Afghanistan, Iraq, and domestic security, and to their families;
and
WHEREAS, Honored at the April 2004 meeting of the Irving City
Council were the Boy Scouts of America; Allstate Insurance Company;
Comcast; Exxon-Mobil; Sears, Roebuck and Company; Verizon; and
Wal-Mart; and
WHEREAS, These institutions have gone beyond what is required
by law in providing for their employees in National Guard or Reserve
units who have been called to active duty since September 11, 2001;
the measures they have taken range from extending the period of pay
and benefits supplementation to organizing blood drives,
contributing to and fund-raising for the National Military Family
Association, collecting relief items for deployed personnel, and
donating phone cards to members of the military and their families;
and
WHEREAS, Joining in paying tribute to these institutions were
the Irving Republican Women, Irving Republican Club, Irving Rotary
Club, Irving Kiwanis Club, Irving Elks Lodge No. 3334, Irving
Hispanic Forum, and Irving Professional Firefighters Association;
and
WHEREAS, Those who have been called to service from the
National Guard and Reserve have borne, together with their
families, a special set of burdens, and the support rendered by
these institutions in their behalf is an admirable, concrete
expression of appreciation for their tremendous efforts and
sacrifice; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby join in commending these
outstanding Irving institutions for their generous assistance to
those employees who have been called to active duty since September
11, 2001; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
for these institutions as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
