R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Theresa Rose "Tess" Giolma
of San Antonio on March 3, 2004, at the age of 57, has brought a
profound loss to the family and many friends of this esteemed woman;
and
WHEREAS, Born June 24, 1946, to Lieutenant Louis S. and
Rachel Karably, Mrs. Giolma attended the University of Florida and
earned a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's
degree in education; it was during those years that she met and
married her husband, Paul Giolma; and
WHEREAS, After moving to San Antonio in 1975, Mrs. Giolma
became deeply involved in the community, donating her time and
talents to a number of worthy causes and organizations; a member of
the Mahnke Park Neighborhood Association, she was instrumental in
the retransformation of Lamar Elementary into a mainstream school,
served with the Women's Political Caucus, was appointed to the
city's Board of Adjustments, and officiated as chair of San
Antonio's City Planning Commission; and
WHEREAS, Highly dedicated to ensuring the election of quality
political candidates, Mrs. Giolma devoted her energy and expertise
to an array of political campaigns in the 1980s and 1990s, including
Ann Richards's gubernatorial and reelection races; she displayed
the utmost professionalism throughout her career, and her record of
excellence was recognized with an appointment to the State Board of
Optometry; and
WHEREAS, A woman of tremendous courage and integrity, Tess
Giolma served her city and state with pride and distinction,
demonstrating rare drive and determination in all her endeavors,
and although she will be greatly missed, her legacy will live on in
the hearts and minds of those whose lives she touched; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay special tribute to the
life of Theresa Rose Giolma and extend deepest sympathy to the
members of her family: to her husband, Paul Giolma; to her son,
Matthew Giolma; to her parents, Colonel Louis S. and Rachel
Karably; to her sister, Deborah Karably Lazar; to her brothers,
Louis S. Karably, Jr., David Karably, and Kenneth Karably; and to
the other relatives and friends of this beloved and admired woman;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That when the Texas House of Representatives
adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Theresa Rose "Tess" Giolma.
