R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Metford E. Mountford of Houston on January 4, 2004, at the age of 54, has deeply saddened the family and many friends of this esteemed gentleman; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Concordia Teachers' College in Seward, Nebraska, Mr. Mountford cherished his Christian faith, and devoted a lifetime to the Lord's work; and WHEREAS, This notable Texan came to St. Mark Lutheran Church in 1971, and over the next three decades, he served as teacher, youth director, organist, choir director, minister of music, and senior administrator; he began a new career in design and construction, as well as a distinguished tenure as Trinity's organist and choir director, in 2000; and WHEREAS, He also lent his time and talents to the board of directors, board of parish services, and worship committee of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod/Texas District; he led conferences and workshops in Canada, Europe, and the United States, and in 1991, he was invited to direct the Houston Lutheran Chorale at Carnegie Hall; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to his faith and his family, Metford Mountford touched the lives of countless people, and his memory will surely live on for many years to come in the hearts of all those who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby honor the life of Metford E. Mountford and extend deepest sympathy to his family: to his wife, Mary Mountford; to his daughter and son-in-law, Meda and Michael Kaspar; to his granddaughters, Meredith and Michaela Kaspar; to his mother and stepfather, Genevieve and James Culwell; to his brother and sister-in-law, Monroe and Kim Mountford; and to the other relatives and many friends of this beloved gentleman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Metford Mountford.
