R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, In recognition of its outstanding service to the community, Mobile Loaves and Fishes of Austin has received a prestigious Governor's Volunteer Award for 2004; and WHEREAS, The Governor's Volunteer Awards program has a 21-year tradition of honoring the state's most dedicated volunteers; each year, only 13 award recipients are selected from among hundreds of nominees throughout the state; and WHEREAS, Created in 1999 by six volunteers who had a vision to feed the hungry in Austin, Mobile Loaves and Fishes now is supported by more than 4,000 volunteers, who raise money and provide food for the poor and homeless; a remarkably fast-growing outreach program, this nonprofit organization distributed 10,000 meals in Austin in its first year and only four years later served nearly 100,000 people in Austin and San Antonio; in addition to food, Mobile Loaves and Fishes provides clothing, toiletries, prayer cards, and supplies; and WHEREAS, Since its inception, Mobile Loaves and Fishes has demonstrated a deep commitment to the communities it serves, and its success in fulfilling its mission to bring food, clothing, and dignity to people in need is indeed deserving of this special honor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Mobile Loaves and Fishes on its receipt of a 2004 Governor's Volunteer Award and extend to all those associated with this fine organization deep appreciation for the important service that they provide; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mobile Loaves and Fishes as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
