H.R. No. 274
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 19th Annual Conference of the Texas Alliance of
Black School Educators (TABSE) has provided a fitting opportunity
to recognize this noteworthy organization's myriad contributions
to education in the Lone Star State; and
WHEREAS, In December 1986, the TABSE held its first meeting
to establish a coalition among African-American educators and other
individuals who shared a common interest in developing strategies
to improve educational opportunities for African-American
students; the alliance received its charter on November 12, 1987,
with 13 charter members: Dr. Clarence Bibby, Dr. J. David Bowick,
Mrs. Elma Jean Carr, Mr. Edward Cline, Dr. Jay Cummings, Dr. Joseph
Drayton, Mr. Dennis Dunkins, Mrs. Donetta Goodfall, Mr. Roland
Hayes, Dr. James Hill, Dr. Thomas Randle, Dr. Alfred Roberts, and
Mr. Cameron Wells; and
WHEREAS, At the 2004 conference, attendees continued to build
on that tradition of excellence established by their peers nearly
two decades ago, as educators, parents, and community leaders
gathered to examine such important issues as the use of technology
in the classroom and the development of reading, mathematics, and
advanced instruction strategies; and
WHEREAS, Through their ongoing efforts to advance the
education of our state's young people, these dedicated individuals
are successfully working toward the critical goal of providing a
quality education to all students and empowering them to fulfill
their dreams; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend the Texas Alliance
of Black School Educators and extend to all the members of the
alliance sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators as an
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
