R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, After more than 31 years of excellent work in behalf of citizens of the State of Texas, Jacob Green retired from the Texas Department of Human Services (TDHS) on April 23, 2004; and WHEREAS, Mr. Green began working for TDHS in 1977 as an eligibility specialist for the Austin region; soon after, he enrolled in graduate school at The University of Texas at Austin with a stipend awarded by the department, receiving his master of science degree in social work in 1982; following his return to the agency, he was soon promoted to the position of training specialist; and WHEREAS, For the past 21 years, Mr. Green provided vital training to TDHS staff in such diverse areas as departmental policy, computer software, CPR, non-violent crisis intervention, and stress and time management skills; and WHEREAS, Equally committed to serving the greater community, he addressed many local groups to explain the programs and services available through TDHS, and he has been a mentor for elementary schoolchildren and volunteered for television broadcasting station KLRN and the Spurs Foundation; he is also a member of Redeeming Grace Baptist Church, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and the Phillis Wheatley Area Optimist Club; and WHEREAS, With Mr. Green's retirement, TDHS has lost a much-valued member of its team; the diligence and commitment he brought to his duties have contributed to the efficient operation of the department and have benefited countless Texans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby honor Jacob Green for his many years of unfaltering service to the State of Texas and extend to him sincere congratulations on his retirement; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Green as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
