H.R. No. 280


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On April 24, 2004, the San Antonio Youth Council of the NAACP hosted the fifth annual Youth Image Awards Banquet; and WHEREAS, Part of the Alamo City's Fiesta Celebration, this important event celebrates the outstanding accomplishments of elementary, middle, and high school students in the areas of academics, military science, athletics, fine arts, leadership, and volunteerism; and WHEREAS, Since 1936, the Youth and College Division of the NAACP has helped to develop effective leadership skills in young people through developmental training and other programs; more than 60 students currently participate in the San Antonio chapter of the NAACP Youth Council, an organization devoted to solving the problems affecting people of color, advancing their economic, educational, social, and political status, and stimulating an appreciation of the African American contribution to civilization; and WHEREAS, This stellar organization contributes greatly to the strength of the Lone Star State by encouraging, empowering, and rewarding young Texans who strive for excellence, an endeavor that is building a brighter and more promising future for all Texas residents; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend the San Antonio Youth Council of the NAACP on the occasion of the fifth annual Youth Image Awards Banquet; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the San Antonio Youth Council of the NAACP as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
