R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For an impressive 37 years, Colonel Charles W. Edwards, Jr., has served both his state and his nation with pride and distinction; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Jarvis Christian College, Colonel Edwards holds a master's degree from Christian Theological Seminary and a doctorate from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary; this accomplished man has also received specialized training from an array of military schools; and WHEREAS, Colonel Edwards began an illustrious military career in 1966 and saw duty as an infantryman in Korea before enlisting in the United States Army Reserve and serving in the Chaplain Corps; he soon reentered active duty, and in 1979 he began his tenure with the Texas Army National Guard, where he has continued to excel in his role as chaplain, garnering promotions and accolades; his intelligence, devotion to duty, and compassion have earned him numerous prestigious positions, including that of joint forces headquarters chaplain, a position in which he supervises more than 100 chaplains and chaplain assistants throughout Texas; and WHEREAS, In recognition of his meritorious service, Colonel Edwards has been honored with a number of awards; he has received the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Lone Star Distinguished Service Award, and numerous other recognitions, each a testament to his stellar character and commitment; and WHEREAS, A man of deep faith, Colonel Edwards has also led six Churches of Christ, in three different states, and worked for 11 years with the Department of Veterans Affairs, both as a chaplain and as Chief, Chaplain Service; and WHEREAS, Colonel Edwards exemplifies the traits of courage, honor, and integrity that are the highest ideals of our nation's armed forces, and he has justly earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the gratitude of his fellow Americans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Colonel Charles W. Edwards, Jr., for his remarkable record of service to Texas and the United States and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Colonel Edwards as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
