H.R. No. 284


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, In commemoration of their golden wedding anniversary, Charles and Marie Thurston of San Antonio are renewing their wedding vows on May 30, 2004, at Second Baptist Church, the ceremony to be followed by a family-hosted dinner and dance that evening at the Spring Hill Event Center; and WHEREAS, The Thurstons were married on June 1, 1954, and their enduring union has brought great joy to their close-knit circle of loved ones, which includes four daughters and sons-in-law, Renee and Reggie Moore, Cynthia and Rickie Baker, Patti and Paul Cooper, and Carmen and Jerry Webb, and 10 beloved grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Both natives of Virginia, the couple graduated from Virginia State University; Dr. Thurston went on to Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, and later completed a residency in dermatology in Ann Arbor, Michigan; and WHEREAS, He joined the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of colonel, and his family traveled with him to points around the globe, finally coming to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, where he served as chief of dermatology; after retiring from the military, Dr. Thurston opened a private practice, which he continues today in downtown San Antonio; and WHEREAS, While the family lived in Ann Arbor, Marie Thurston earned a master's degree at the University of Michigan; in 2002, she received a doctorate from the University of the Incarnate Word and currently is employed with St. Philips College in the research department; and WHEREAS, Together, this devoted couple have shared the trials and triumphs of five decades; their commitment to each other, to their family, and to their community is inspirational, and it is a distinct pleasure to honor them at this special time in their marriage; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, congratulate Charles and Marie Thurston on the milestone of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Thurston as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
