R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Catherine Lynn Treviño of Weslaco has earned a $20,000 scholarship from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, joining a group of 50 national scholarship winners selected from among 80,000 applicants, and it is a pleasure to recognize this young Texan at this time; and WHEREAS, A senior at Weslaco High School, Ms. Treviño has demonstrated leadership and excellence throughout her academic career; she is ranked first in her graduating class and plans to study biomedical science at Texas A&M University and attend medical school, specializing in geriatrics; her long-term goals include establishing nursing homes in the Rio Grande Valley and advocating for the rights of our elderly citizens; and WHEREAS, Ms. Treviño has excelled in extracurricular activities as well as academics, most notably as president of the National Honor Society and as an award-winning, four-year member of her school's marching band and honors band; this talented teen also participates in speech and debate, and in 2002 she earned recognition as the Texas Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session's Best Debater; and WHEREAS, Well known for her commitment to civic and charitable initiatives, Ms. Treviño is active in her church and has devoted time and energy to numerous worthwhile organizations, including Toys for Tots, Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, and the American Cancer Society; and WHEREAS, The daughter of proud parents Juan and Nora Treviño, Ms. Treviño has impressed all who know her with her dedication to achieving success in all aspects of her life, and it is most rewarding to join in honoring this extraordinary young Texan; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Catherine Lynn Treviño on receiving a $20,000 scholarship from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and extend to her best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Treviño as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
