R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, With the passing of Glen A. Pickett, the father of our esteemed colleague, State Representative Joe Pickett, on December 25, 2003, at the age of 77, the city of El Paso lost a devoted citizen and highly respected community leader; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pickett's strong faith and deep concern for the welfare of others was reflected in the many hours he devoted to religious and charitable organizations; he served as president of the Rescue Mission board, president of the Learning Disabilities Association, president of the Pilot Club of El Paso, lifetime member and past district governor of Lions International, and member of the Loyal Order of the Moose; a valued congregant of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister, he also belonged to the Roncalli Club; and WHEREAS, This patriotic Texan was a veteran of World War II; he later entered business and served as president and CEO of the Pickett Pie Factory; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pickett and his wife, Phyllis, became the proud parents of six children, Anne, Mary, Joseph, Christopher, Patrick, and the late Anthony Pickett; as the years passed, the couple also joyfully welcomed into their family their children's spouses and rejoiced at the arrival of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Glen Pickett brought to his many endeavors an unfailing integrity, steady purposefulness, and generosity of spirit that won him the affection and esteem of countless fellow citizens, and his memory will be forever cherished by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay special tribute to the life of Glen A. Pickett and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 51 years, Phyllis Pickett; to his daughters, Mary Pickett and Anne Pickett-Estrada; to his sons, Christopher Pickett and his wife, Vickie, Patrick Pickett and his wife, Iris, and Joseph Pickett and his wife, Denise; to his grandchildren, Andres, Vera, and Francis Estrada, Nicklaus Jimenez, Michelle Ramsey, and Josey, Conrad, Christina, Christal, Jennifer, Joshua, Chase, Adam, and Madison Pickett; to his great-grandchildren, Chrystofer Pickett and Rosemary Chavez; and to all his other relatives and loved ones; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family, and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Glen A.
