R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Sergeant Isela
Rubalcava of El Paso suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of
this courageous soldier in Iraq on May 8, 2004, at the age of 25; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Rubalcava joined the U.S. Army in 2000 and
became a supply technician with the Army's Stryker Brigade Combat
team based at Fort Lewis, Washington; deployed to Iraq in November
2003 and assigned to the C 296th Combat Support Battalion, 3rd
Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Sergeant Rubalcava was killed when
a mortar round exploded near her in Mosul; and
WHEREAS, An El Paso native and 1996 Canutillo High School
graduate, Isela Rubalcava attended The University of Texas at El
Paso and Sul Ross State University; she is described by friends and
relatives as a beautiful, funny, and free-spirited person who was
filled with happiness and energy and who achieved any goal she set
her heart on; and
WHEREAS, Through her selfless and unfaltering devotion to
duty, honor, and her country, this courageous Texan embodied the
highest ideals of the armed services, and we owe a profound debt to
Sergeant Rubalcava and her family for the enormous sacrifice they
have paid; while she will be remembered always by her loved ones as
a caring daughter, sister, niece, cousin, granddaughter, and
friend, she will be remembered by her country as a hero; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Sergeant Isela Rubalcava, United States Army, and extend deepest
sympathies to her parents, Ramon and Maria Isela Rubalcava, her
brothers, and her other relatives and many friends; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
Sergeant Isela Rubalcava.
