R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, The members of First Baptist Church of Midland are 
celebrating the 50th anniversary of this venerable institution's 
location at its present site on June 5-6, 2004; and
	WHEREAS, Organized in the late 1800s, First Baptist Church of 
Midland has existed at its current location since 1954; today, it is 
home to the Permian Basin's largest single Christian congregation; 
and
	WHEREAS, Each week, some 3,000 Midland-area residents 
participate in worship services, religious study, and fellowship 
through the church's many offerings; in addition, church services 
are broadcast to thousands of people in the western United States 
via radio and television; and
	WHEREAS, Thanks to the faithful efforts of former pastor Dr. 
L. L. Morriss, current pastor Gary Dyer, and the many individuals 
who contribute to the success of this esteemed place of worship, 
First Baptist Church of Midland continues to benefit countless 
citizens in West Texas and beyond; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby recognize the 50th 
anniversary of the First Baptist Church of Midland's location at 
its present site and extend best wishes to Pastor Gary Dyer and the 
church's congregation for a memorable anniversary celebration; 
and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
