R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The citizens of Winnsboro lost a valued friend and
much-admired public servant with the passing of city council member
Barney Fred Anderson on May 3, 2004, at the age of 75; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson graduated from Winnsboro High School
and pursued his higher education at the University of North Texas
before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army; and
WHEREAS, He was a marketing wholesale representative who had
worked for Texaco for 34 years; after he retired, the Andersons
returned to Winnsboro, and in 1998, he was elected to the Winnsboro
City Council, where he served three distinguished terms before his
passing; and
WHEREAS, He further donated his time and talents to the
Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro board of directors, the
Winnsboro Planning and Zoning Board, the Winnsboro Economic
Development Board, the Upper Sabine Valley Waste Management
District board, Meals on Wheels Ministry, and the American Music
Festival; and
WHEREAS, A member of the First United Methodist Church, he
had served in a number of positions over the years, including
finance chairman, president of his Sunday school class,
pastor-parish relations chairman, and member of the choir; and
WHEREAS, Barney Anderson gave unstintingly of his talents,
time, and efforts, and his commitment to achieving an ever brighter
future for the citizens of his community represented the very best
in public service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby honor the life of Barney
Fred Anderson and extend deepest sympathy to his family: to his
wife, Margie Faye Anderson; to his daughter, Tina Carol Davis; to
his sons, Barry Glenn Anderson and Bryan Lee Anderson; to his
grandchildren; to his sister, Wanda Allen Martin; and to the other
relatives and many friends of this beloved gentleman; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Barney
Fred Anderson.
