R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Vernett Wallace Lovett of Dallas on
April 30, 2004, at the age of 83, has brought a profound loss to the
family and many friends of this distinguished gentleman; and
WHEREAS, Born in Corsicana on June 6, 1920, Mr. Lovett
graduated from the Corsicana Texas School District and was a
self-made man; and
WHEREAS, In addition to owning and operating a successful dry
cleaning business, Mr. Lovett was a devout member of the Good Street
Baptist Church in Dallas; as a deacon and an usher, he faithfully
served his congregation, providing spiritual guidance to countless
individuals; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lovett was steadfastly devoted to his family; he
married Ethel Lovett on July 9, 1987, and took great pride in the
many accomplishments of his two children, two stepchildren, 17
grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Vernett Lovett
will remember him as a man of integrity and kindness, and although
he will be sincerely missed, his legacy will live on in the hearts
of those whose lives he so richly blessed; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay special tribute to the
life of Vernett Wallace Lovett and extend deepest sympathy to his
family: to his wife, Ethel Lovett; to his sons, Vernett Lovett,
Jr., and James Lovett; to his stepsons, Gary Blevins and Victor
Blevins; to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to the
other family and friends of this much loved and respected man; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns on this day, it do so in memory of Vernett
Wallace Lovett.
