R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, State Representative Dwayne Bohac and Dawn Smith
Askew are being united in matrimony in the House Chamber of the
Texas State Capitol on May 15, 2004, to the delight of all who know
them; and
WHEREAS, Representative Bohac and Ms. Askew are both active
members of Second Baptist Church in Houston; they met at a Sunday
school class Christmas party in December 2001 and began dating
shortly afterward; and
WHEREAS, The couple are founding their marriage on 1
Corinthians 13:4-7: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not
envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not
self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always
perseveres"; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Askew is a native of Houston and the daughter of
Gary Leonard Smith and Verna Smith Hagan; she has two brothers, Sean
Alan and Clint LaRon Smith, and she is the mother of three treasured
children, Foster Kirk, Sterling Edward, and Faith Rene Askew; a
realtor by profession, this remarkable woman has also become an
accomplished marathon runner in her quest to increase awareness of
the incidence of lung cancer among nonsmokers; and
WHEREAS, Also born in the Bayou City, Dwayne Bohac is the son
of Benjamin Vojtech Bohac and Mildred Bohac and the brother of Greg
Bohac and Cherie Bohac Tello; he attended Scarborough High School,
which he now has the privilege to represent, and went on to earn a
bachelor of science degree in political science and a bachelor of
business administration degree in marketing from Texas A&M
University; after graduating with honors, he returned home to start
the small retail business that he operates today; and
WHEREAS, Representative Bohac was elected in November 2002 to
serve the people of House District 138 in the Texas Legislature; his
district encompasses the Bear Creek, Spring Branch, Oak Forest, and
Garden Oaks communities of west and northwest Houston; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed colleague serves on the House Business
and Industry Committee, as well as on the Elections and Rules and
Resolutions Committees; he has also been appointed by House Speaker
Tom Craddick to serve on the Executive Committee for the Texas
Office for Prevention of Developmental Disabilities, which works to
minimize the human and economic losses caused by such disabilities
in Texas children; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his public service, Dwayne Bohac can
take pride in a long record of community leadership; this
accomplished gentleman was a founder of the Save Our
Neighborhoods--Northwest Coalition and is a member of the White Oak
Bayou Association and the Spring Branch Revitalization
Association; he is passionate about protecting neighborhoods and
the quality of life that citizens enjoy there; and
WHEREAS, Dwayne Bohac and Dawn Askew are pledging their love
and devotion to one another in the presence of their families and
their many friends, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring them as
they embark on their new life as husband and wife; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate the Honorable
Dwayne Bohac and Dawn Askew on the joyful occasion of their marriage
and extend to them sincere best wishes for much happiness in the
years to come; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Representative Bohac and Ms. Askew as an expression of
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
