CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Comstock High School University Interscholastic League social studies team, which recently won the team social studies state championship in Conference A; and WHEREAS, This year marked the first time the social studies competition was held at the state level; the topic was "The Gilded Age," and students prepared by studying the politics, economics, literature, laws, and architecture of the time between 1877 and 1900, giving up their lunch periods and free time to learn as much as possible; and WHEREAS, In the regional contest leading to the state competition, Comstock earned the Conference A "Wild Card" berth, allowing it to advance to the state finals; and WHEREAS, At state, the team competed in a contest that included about 25 students from over 10 schools in their conference throughout the state; Comstock persevered and placed first in the team competition, defeating Anton High School 187-176; and WHEREAS, Comstock High School social studies team members Celeste Greene, Amara Greene, Adrienna Guajardo, and Graydon Richardson have demonstrated great talent and persistence in their quest for the state championship; and WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership and expertise of coach Val Acree and Comstock teachers Diana Sulaica and Segundo Guajardo, the team was focused and well prepared for the competition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas, 4th Called Session, hereby commend the Comstock High School University Interscholastic League social studies team for winning the team social studies state championship in Conference A; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Legislature.
