SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 5
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize The Blood Center at Round Rock on the occasion of its
grand opening in May of 2004; and
WHEREAS, The Blood Center at Round Rock is the first
satellite blood donation center to be opened by The Blood and
Tissue Center of Central Texas since it was established as the
Austin Blood Bank in 1951; and
WHEREAS, Blood donation helps save the lives of thousands
of critically ill Texans each year and is vital to many cancer
patients and people undergoing surgeries; the demand for blood
products has increased over the years, and in 2004, 60,000 units
of blood must be collected, tested, and processed to meet the
needs of as many as 180,000 Central Texas patients; and
WHEREAS, The Blood Center at Round Rock will provide
therapeutic blood products to 31 hospital and treatment
facilities in 10 Central Texas counties; the center will have six
donation beds and three interview booths to accommodate up to 50
donors a day; and
WHEREAS, Having a blood center located in the area is a
great convenience for blood donors who live and work in
Williamson County and a tremendous asset to the institutions that
require blood products for transfusion; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend The Blood
and Tissue Center of Central Texas for establishing a satellite
blood donation center in Round Rock and extend best wishes to the
staff of The Blood Center of Round Rock; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
