SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 9
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Chase Brown, who was crowned Miss Teen Texas 2003 at the Miss Teen Texas pageant in Fort Worth on July 1, 2003; and WHEREAS, Chase is a resident of Plano and a sophomore attending Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas; for over 12 years, she has been active in various disciplines of dance and voice in the Dallas and Fort Worth area, performing in commercials, industrial film, and theater; and WHEREAS, Competing as Miss Teen Frisco, Chase became the first African American to earn the Miss Teen Texas title since the competition began in 1990; two Miss Teen Texas title holders have gone on to win the Miss Texas crown; Chase plans to pursue a career in singing and to compete in the Miss Texas pageant in the future; and WHEREAS, Chase received cash scholarships totaling $2,500 and will travel around the state throughout the next year encouraging young people to participate in physical activity to prevent obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and low self-esteem; and WHEREAS, Chase's accomplishment reflects her excellent character, her intelligence, and her talent; she is a fine representative of the young people of this state and is a source of great pride to her family and her community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby extend congratulations to Chase Brown for winning the Miss Teen Texas 2003 title and extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
