SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 14
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Camp Wisdom United Methodist Church's Women's Day,
which takes place April 25, 2004; and
WHEREAS, The United Methodist Women is the official women's
organization of the United Methodist Church; it provides women
with opportunities for spiritual enrichment and leadership
development and for participation in fund-raising efforts and
activities that contribute to the establishment of a just global
society; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, United Methodist Women is celebrating
135 years of service to the church, and the Camp Wisdom United
Methodist Women organization is observing the anniversary
through its annual Women's Day program; and
WHEREAS, The theme of Camp Wisdom United Methodist Church's
Women's Day is "To Be Or Not To Be?"; Dr. Evelyn Parker of the
Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, will
be the guest speaker; the event will also provide the opportunity
to launch the inaugural Johnnie Simpson-Craig United Methodist
Women's Service Awards; the awards have been created to recognize
African-American laywomen who make significant contributions to
the church; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Camp Wisdom
United Methodist Women for their many worthy projects benefiting
their church and the community and extend best wishes to all on
the occasion of Women's Day; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
