SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 23
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the Central Texas Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers in recognizing May 2 through 8, 2004, as North American Occupational Safety and Health Week; and WHEREAS, The 2004 observation of North American Occupational Safety and Health Week is being sponsored by the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers, and the Mexican Society of Registered Engineers; and WHEREAS, The week provides the opportunity to focus attention on preventing work-related injuries and illnesses, and it promotes the development of workplace safety programs so that all the citizens of our great continent may work in safe environments and return safely to their loved ones every day of the year; and WHEREAS, The more than 30,000 members of the American Society of Safety Engineers, together with their Canadian and Mexican colleagues, play important roles in keeping workplaces safe and workers healthy; their efforts have a positive effect on employee productivity and satisfaction, thereby strengthening our economy; and WHEREAS, During North American Occupational Safety and Health Week, safety and occupational professionals across the continent will raise public awareness of the value of integrating effective safety and health programs in the workplace; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers, and the Mexican Society of Registered Engineers for their dedication to the safety and health of workers throughout North America and urge all Texans to observe North American Occupational Safety and Health Week and commit themselves to creating safe and healthy workplaces for all the people of our state; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special week.
