SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 39
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize James J. Foreman on the occasion of his retirement as
county chair of the Democratic Party of Van Zandt County on
May 3, 2004; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong Democrat, Mr. Foreman has been
active in Democratic Party politics since 1971; he was elected
to the Van Zandt County chairmanship in 1997 and has worked
throughout his tenure to further the campaigns of numerous
Democrats, including Vice President Al Gore, Senator David Cain,
State Representative Bob Glaze, and gubernatorial candidate
Tony Sanchez; and
WHEREAS, James Foreman graduated from Wills Point
High School, and he worked as a journeyman electrician from 1954
to 1971; he was elected business manager and financial secretary
of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union
Number 59 in Dallas and served 11 years before his appointment to
the international staff of the organization; and
WHEREAS, In 1982, he was appointed international
representative and union organizer for the International Brotherhood
of Electrical Workers in Washington, D.C.; he served in this
capacity until his retirement in 1997; and
WHEREAS, A strong supporter of the union movement over the
years, James Foreman firmly believes every person who works
for a living should have the right to a job with decent pay and
benefits; and
WHEREAS, A man of unique talents, great loyalty, and
exceptional leadership abilities, James J. Foreman has been a
source of strength and inspiration to other members of the
Democratic Party in Van Zandt County, and he will be greatly
missed; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend
James J. Foreman for his outstanding accomplishments during
his tenure as county chair of the Democratic Party of
Van Zandt County and extend to him best wishes for his future
endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
