SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 66
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Saeed Jones, who won the state championship of the American Legion's National High School Oratorical Contest in February, 2004; and WHEREAS, After winning the state championship, he went on to the 2004 national finals in April, where he advanced to the semifinals; and WHEREAS, Saeed Jones is a senior honor student at Lewisville High School, where he serves as president of the National Forensic League chapter and the National Honor Society; he is a member of numerous other organizations, including the Academic Decathlon team and the Writer's Guild; and WHEREAS, A top speech and debate competitor who has won many awards, Saeed was local, district, and state champion of the Lions Club Speech Contest in 2002, and in 2003 he was state champion of the Rotary Club Four Way Speech Contest and the American Legion's oratorical competition, in which he advanced to the national quarterfinals; and WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership and expertise of speech and debate coach Sally Squibb and assistant coaches Mrs. Poole and Mrs. Hawes, Saeed has become an excellent speaker and debater, and he deserves to be proud of his many achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Saeed Jones for his outstanding speaking skills and extend congratulations to him on winning the state championship of the American Legion's National High School Oratorical Contest and advancing to the national semifinals; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
