SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 69
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to honor Deborah Sanford for her outstanding contributions to the world of dance and to recognize June 6, 2004, as Deborah Sanford's 44th Year in Dance Day; and WHEREAS, Deborah is a gifted dancer and choreographer trained in ballet, tap, jazz, and musical theatre; she attended The University of Texas at Austin and holds an associate degree in drama; and WHEREAS, While studying at the university, Deborah was a member of the Austin Civic Ballet and assistant choreographer for Center Stage Theatre; after returning to Houston, she danced in Theatre Under the Stars productions such as West Side Story and Show Boat; as the resident choreographer for the Greater Pasadena Civic Jazz Ballet Company, she staged The Nutcracker, Peter Pan, and The Wiz; and WHEREAS, Deborah's career has been a testament to her extraordinary talent; she was a Glen Hunsucker Dancer and was accepted into the prestigious Houston Allegro Ballet Company; she has appeared on national television and has several film credits to her name; her students have performed across the country, from Los Angeles to New York City; and WHEREAS, Highly respected in her field, Deborah Sanford has served as president of Dance Masters of America Chapter Three and as a delegate, director, and area vice president of the National Dance Masters of America Board of Directors; her award-winning choreography can be seen locally throughout the year at competitions and annual recitals; and WHEREAS, Through her outstanding artistry as a dancer and choreographer, Deborah Sanford has brought great pleasure to many people; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Deborah Sanford for her many contributions to the art of dance and extend congratulations to her on her special day; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
