SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 95
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Brittnie Simmons of San Antonio as a distinguished
young citizen of Texas; and
WHEREAS, Brittnie Simmons is the current
Junior Miss Wheelchair Texas; born with spina bifida, she has
been paraplegic since birth; she was raised on her mother's
"No Boundaries" philosophy, and she personifies an exemplary
determination to excel in all she undertakes; and
WHEREAS, At the age of five, Brittnie learned to explore
her world on a motorized Barbie Jeep that was specially altered
for her; in elementary school, she participated in the Bike Rodeo
on a 36-speed, hand-pedaled mountain bicycle; she has been a
member of her school's cheerleading squad, and she enjoys dancing
at In Flight Dance; and
WHEREAS, Brittnie has performed at the Alamodome in
San Antonio and at Reunion Arena in Dallas, and she has been
featured on ESPN; she is scheduled to perform for the halftime
show at the Special Olympics Regionals in 2004 and at the 2005
Goodwill Games; and
WHEREAS, In her role as the Junior Miss Wheelchair Texas,
Brittnie speaks to disabled inner-city students, bringing them
hope and inspiring them to follow their dreams; and
WHEREAS, Brittnie's true ambition and drive along with her
admirable courage and her many accomplishments have made her a
genuine role model and an inspiration for all the young people of
Texas; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby recognize
Brittnie Simmons as a distinguished young citizen of Texas and
extend best wishes to her for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
