SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 96
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay tribute to Thelma Mae Evans-Gray on the grand occasion of her 100th birthday; and WHEREAS, A gracious lady who is known for her charm and generosity of spirit, Thelma Evans-Gray is a revered resident of San Antonio; and WHEREAS, Thelma was born on May 8, 1904, in Harrisburg, Illinois; she shared a long and loving marriage with Harold Gray, and the couple was blessed with one daughter; and WHEREAS, Known for her creativity, Thelma worked in catering for 35 years, and she enjoys gardening, crocheting, bridge, and traveling; and WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Thelma practices her faith in her daily life; she joined the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church at an early age; she later joined Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she became active with the Adult Sunday School class and the Missionary Society; she also served as a local and district leader with the Layman organization, and she organized the Tape Ministry to record Sunday worship services for those unable to attend church; she is currently a member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in San Antonio; and WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community, Thelma is noted for her courage, her compassion for others, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Thelma Mae Evans-Gray on her 100th birthday and recognize her as a treasured citizen of San Antonio and the State of Texas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
