SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 109
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Ruben Studdard, winner of the second American Idol competition, for his outstanding talent as a singer; and WHEREAS, Ruben Studdard is an exceptionally gifted performer who was voted the winner of the American Idol show on May 21, 2003, after nearly six months of intense competition with other highly talented singers; and WHEREAS, Ruben Studdard is a native of Birmingham, Alabama; he graduated from Huffman High School, and he studied voice at Alabama A&M University; and WHEREAS, Ruben began singing at an early age at the Rising Star Baptist Church in Birmingham, and with a love of music nurtured since his childhood, he pursued gospel and pop music throughout high school and college; he sang with God's Gift, a local gospel group, and with Just A Few Cats, a very popular jazz and rhythm and blues group in Birmingham; his recently released first single is a stunning version of Westlife's "Flying Without Wings," and he is now working on his first album with J Records; and WHEREAS, Ruben has a gift for delivering show-stopping renditions of songs, and he possesses a stage presence that radiates warmth; his followers eagerly look forward to his upcoming and undoubtedly successful J Records debut; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Ruben Studdard on winning the second American Idol competition and extend best wishes to him in his future career; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
