SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 139

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize the Texas Engineering Extension Service of the 
Texas A&M University System on the occasion of the celebration of 
the 75th anniversary of the Texas Municipal Fire Training School 
on July 28, 2004; and
	WHEREAS, A fireman's training program was initiated in 1929 
by the State Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association and the 
Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas; and
	WHEREAS, The first municipal firefighter training session 
was held in 1930 and was attended by 176 firefighters from 96 
Texas towns; and
	WHEREAS, A permanent fire training school was established 
by the Texas Legislature in 1931; in 1947, the school became 
part of the Industrial Extension Service, now the Engineering 
Extension Service; and
	WHEREAS, The school, sponsored by the State Firemen's 
and Fire Marshals' Association, now has the largest training 
program in the country; the school trains approximately 2,500 
firefighters each year with the assistance of some 500 guest 
instructors who donate their services; and
	WHEREAS, Effective fire suppression and rescue techniques 
are vital for protecting the lives and property of Texas citizens;
the Texas Municipal Fire Training School fulfills its purpose 
by providing thousands of volunteer and paid firefighters with 
the technical skills necessary to protect our communities; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend the Texas 
Engineering Extension Service for its contributions to our state 
and extend best wishes to all who participate in the celebration 
of the 75th anniversary of the Texas Municipal Fire Training 
School; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in 
honor of this event.
