SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 140
In Memory
of
Margaret Phillips Pakis
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Waco in mourning the loss of Margaret Phillips Pakis, who died December 25, 2003, at the age of 71; and WHEREAS, Margaret Phillips was born in Oklahoma City on January 2, 1932, and grew up in Hot Springs, Arkansas; she attended Texas Christian University for two years and graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1955; and WHEREAS, She married William R. "Bill" Pakis on November 5, 1955, and two years later, the couple moved to Waco; and WHEREAS, Margaret enjoyed her life with her family and pursued her many interests, such as reading, painting, and traveling; a devout Christian, she was a member of Saint Alban's Episcopal Church; and WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity, Mrs. Pakis gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and WHEREAS, Margaret Pakis lived her life to the fullest and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Margaret Phillips Pakis: her husband, William R. Pakis; her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Katherine and Dean Tetirick, Laura and Michael O'Brien, and Alison and Boyd Naylor; her son and daughter-in-law, David and Kovianca Pakis; her brother and sister-in-law, James and Peggy Phillips; and her 10 grandchildren; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Margaret Pakis.
