SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 141
In Memory
of
Frank Fallon
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Waco in mourning the loss of Frank Fallon, who died
on April 30, 2004, at the age of 73; and
WHEREAS, Frank Fallon was born in El Paso and raised in
San Antonio, and he attended Baylor University; he shared a long
and loving marriage with June Fallon, and the couple was blessed
with four sons; and
WHEREAS, Known as the "Voice of the Baylor Bears" for 43
years, Frank was respected and admired in Texas and across the
nation for his knowledge of sports and for his distinctive
broadcast delivery of sporting events; he achieved an outstanding
reputation as a fairminded and accurate broadcaster and as a warm
and humble man in his profession; and
WHEREAS, After serving in the Army, Mr. Fallon settled in
Waco and began a sports broadcasting career that elevated him to
national prominence; he was the first television play-by-play
announcer for Southwest Conference basketball, and he served as
the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Final Four public
address announcer for over 20 years; he spent 34 years at KWTX
radio and television in Waco, including 29 years as general
manager of the station; he retired from broadcasting in 1995; and
WHEREAS, For his outstanding work, Frank was voted Texas
Sportscaster of the Year five times, was voted Texas' best radio
play-by-play announcer seven times by the Associated Press, and
was named one of the state's top 10 all-time radio play-by-play
announcers by the Texas Sportswriters Association; he was
recognized with the 2001 Chris Schenkel Award from the National
Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, and he is a member
of the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame and the Baylor
Athletics Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Frank Fallon was a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Frank Fallon: his wife,
June; his sons, Steve, Mark, Mike, and Kyle; and his five
grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Frank Fallon.
