SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 146
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
recognizing Sergeant Joshua Benjamin Kelley for outstanding
service to his country as a member of the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Kelley is currently serving at Camp War
Eagle in Baghdad, Iraq, with the 1st Cavalry Division from
Fort Hood; he joined the Army on the deferred enlistment program
while attending Monterrey High School and completed his basic
training after graduating in 1998; and
WHEREAS, Josh was stationed with the Old Guard at Fort McNair
in Washington, D.C., where many of his duties concerned honor guard
ceremonies, when on September 11, 2001, his life changed forever,
as he found himself in a war zone on American soil recovering the
bodies of those killed at the Pentagon; and
WHEREAS, This experience prompted Josh to renew his commitment
to guard our country against enemies, and when his original
enlistment was over in 2002, he reenlisted and requested assignment
to the 1st Calvary Division; and
WHEREAS, Josh Kelley is a dedicated military man who is
determined to do his share in the war against terror; he understands
his mission and is willing to sacrifice everything to complete it;
and
WHEREAS, The citizens of the State of Texas and the
United States owe a tremendous debt to Josh Kelley for the
courage he has shown in defending his country from harm during
Operation Iraqi Freedom; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Sergeant
Joshua Benjamin Kelley for his exemplary service to his country;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
