SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 150
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Colonel Jerry L. Maxwell, who is retiring from the United States Air Force on September 1, 2004, after more than 29 years of outstanding service; a retirement ceremony in his honor is being held on July 9, 2004; and WHEREAS, Colonel Maxwell has had an exemplary career as a flight instructor, operations officer, commander, and division chief; he is a command pilot with more than 4,800 flying hours, primarily in the B-52; he was promoted to colonel in 1997; and WHEREAS, Colonel Maxwell has been awarded the meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, and the National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star; and WHEREAS, Jerry Maxwell was a member of the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University, where he received a bachelor of science degree and was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1974; he earned a master of arts degree in personnel management from Central Michigan University in 1987; and WHEREAS, Colonel Maxwell is currently the commander of Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Detachment 805 at Texas A&M University; his responsibilities include serving as a professor of aerospace studies, as senior military advisor to the Corps of Cadets, and as the head of the Department of Aerospace Studies; and WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Colonel Maxwell has handled his many responsibilities with exceptional ability and dedication; he has earned the admiration and respect of his colleagues, and he will be deeply missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Colonel Jerry L. Maxwell for his exceptional service to his country as a member of the United States Air Force and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
