SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 156
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dr. Ronan Tynan for his outstanding accomplishments as a physician and as a world-class singer; and WHEREAS, A man of many talents, Ronan Tynan is a doctor who specializes in orthopedic sports injuries; he is also a well-known singer who is noted for his stirring performances as a member of the world-famous Irish Tenors; and WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Ronan has faced many challenges, yet he has overcome them all with a great spirit of determination; his life is an inspiring personal story of triumph in the midst of adversity; and WHEREAS, Ronan Tynan was born with lower limb disability, and when he was 20 years of age, his legs had to be amputated below the knee; within a year, however, Ronan was competing in the Paralympic Games; between 1981 and 1990, Dr. Tynan won 18 gold medals and set 14 world records; his success propelled him to conquer yet another field, and he went on to earn a medical degree from the prestigious Trinity College and enter the field of medicine; and WHEREAS, Encouraged by his father to study voice, Ronan won the John McCormick Cup for Tenor Voice in the British Broadcasting Corporation's "Go For It" talent show less than one year after beginning to study music; the following year, he won the prestigious International Operatic Singing Competition in Maumarde, France; since that time, he has enjoyed worldwide popularity as a singer; and WHEREAS, Dr. Ronan Tynan is an exemplary individual who lives his life to the fullest, and his story of personal triumph and achievement is truly an inspiration to people everywhere; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Dr. Ronan Tynan for his exceptional accomplishments and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of highest esteem from the Texas Senate.
